Blessings from God for us and others
Blessings from God and His son our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ come in many different forms. This blessing came in the form of laundry soap.
With the economic changes in America our family's financial status started to change in 2008 and by 2009 we desperately needed income, any income. Even though Stu has a Bachelors Degree in Engineering he could not find work. Then the Lord blessed us and gave him a minimum wage paying job at a local pickle factory. Stu said that that job was the hardest he had ever worked for the least amount of pay. Through this job, God provided for our basic necessities, and we praise Him for it. But bigger blessings can come even through a pickle factory.
During this time we were given the recipe to make our own laundry soap. We knew it was very inexpensive to make but did not know how well it worked. With Stu working at the pickle factory and coming home smelling of vinegar, garlic, hot peppers and pickles we hoped for the best. The laundry soap worked fine at getting the clothes pretty clean but was not getting all of the odors out.
With a little research, we simply increased the ratios of the powdered ingredients. IT WORKED! The odors were gone, jeans came clean and the whites were very white. What more could a family want from a laundry soap.
So we did a cost analysis and found that a five gallon bucket cost us less than $2.70 to make and lasted our family of four six months. And since one of the ingredients is a natural fabric softener we could eliminate liquid softener and dryer sheets as well. WOW, LESS THAN 11¢ PER WEEK for clean and soft clothes!
Now since this laundry soap was such a blessing to us from God, we wanted to share the blessing with others. Theresa (our daughter) already had a booth at our local Farmer's Market that we could sell it at. We first sold it in small containers and told customers if they brought their own five gallon buckets we would make it for them in their bucket for $10. But then another blessing was received. God pointed us to our local WalMart store bakery and they donated their used buckets to us for two farmer's market seasons, 2010 & 2011. With that blessing, we were able to make the laundry soap, take the buckets to market (recycling them), share the recipe and pass the blessing on to others.
When we retell the creation of the homemade laundry soap we let folks know "This homemade laundry soap has been a blessing for us to make and we pray it is a blessing to you, please feel free to share this recipe with others".
To God be the glory great things He hath done!
